Nightingale used mathematics and statistics to uncover patterns hidden in mortality data. During the Crimean War she showed that poor sanitation, not battle wounds, was the leading cause of death among soldiers — a finding she made vivid with her famous "rose diagrams," an early form of the pie chart. Her data work reshaped how hospitals were run and how governments understood public health. She was the first woman elected to the Royal Statistical Society.

Gaudí's work was shaped by geometry, structure and mathematical form. He built hanging chain models, networks of weighted cords left to fall under gravity, then flipped the photographs upside down to find the ideal compression-only shapes for his arches and columns. He used ruled surfaces called hyperbolic paraboloids, doubly-curved forms that can be built entirely from straight lines, to create the sweeping stone canopies and windows of the Sagrada Família.

Leonardo used mathematics across many of his great engineering and design works. He mastered linear perspective, using vanishing points and geometric projection to give his paintings convincing depth. He studied proportion closely enough to illustrate the polyhedra in Luca Pacioli's 'De Divina Proportione', a treatise on the mathematics of proportion. His notebooks are full of geometric diagrams alongside his sketches for flying machines and fortifications.
